About MeMy name is Melissa Medici and I am a senior at Mount Saint Mary College in Newburgh, New York. I graduated in May of 2017 with a Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics and a minor in Psychology. I am currently working towards obtaining my Adolescent Special Education Certification from New York State.
Mount Saint Mary College has offered me many opportunities to expand my learning and experience outside of the classroom. While at Mount Saint Mary College I have participated in several school clubs including C.I.R.C.L.E. Club (Conversations for Inspiring Reading Children’s Literature with Engagement), Math Club, Knitting Knights (Knitting Club), and Big Brothers, Big Sisters. As a junior I had the privilege of being the President of C.I.R.C.L.E. Club, Vice President of Math Club, and Vice President of the Knitting Knights. Currently, as a senior, I am the President of the Knitting Knights. In college, I have been inducted into three honors societies. I am a member of Kappa Mu Epsilon, the national mathematics honor society, Kappa Delta Pi, the international education honor society, and Alpha Chi, the national college honor society. I am a recipient of the 2015 MSMC Ralph Scholar, only 5% of the sophomore class is nominated, and the 2016 MSMC Aquinas Scholar, only 5% of juniors and seniors are nominated per division. I have worked as a tutor in various subjects such as Pre-Algebra, Algebra 1, Pre-Calculus, and Calculus 1, for various ages ranging from primary school to college. I have volunteered to help at Bishop Dunn Memorial School’s Extension Program since Fall of 2014. At home, on Long Island, I also work as a Substitute Teacher Assistant at a school for students with developmental disabilities. At this school, I am given the opportunity to interact one-on-one with students with developmental disabilities and complete several goals on their IEP (Individualized Education Plan). I completed my student teaching experience in the Newburgh Enlarged City School District and Goshen Central School District. My first placement was in a middle school Mathematics classroom where I taught 6th, 7th, and 8th Grade Math at the Regents and Accelerated Level. My second placement was in a high school classroom where I taught self-contained Geometry, inclusion Geometry, and Life Skills classes. All of these experiences have contributed to my growth as the future educator I am working towards becoming. |
